Age 87, of Franklin Furnace, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 30, 2018 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. He was born in Sciotoville on December 19, 1931 to Rafe and Gwendolyn (Mougey) Spradlin. Donald served his country in the U.S. Army and former employment included Scioto Monument Co., Armco Steel in Middletown, and Semet-Solvay in Ironton. He dedicated his life as a longtime Fireman with over 50 years of service, being a charter member of the Rubyville Fire Department and also of the Green Township Fire Department. He also helped found Scioto Water, Inc. and served on their Board for over 25 years. Donald was a former member of Berean Baptist Church and was a member of and attended Junior Furnace Missionary Baptist Church for the last several years.
He is survived by three children, Avanelle (Mark) Pierce of Franklin Furnace, Dawnita Spradlin of Wheelersburg, and Jeff (Tami) Spradlin of Franklin Furnace; seven grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Williams, Jennifer Pierce, Keri (Shannon) Cooper, Meagan (Chad) McGlone, Jessi Spradlin, Jeffrey Spradlin, and Jillian Spradlin, and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy, in 2006; brother, Jerry Spradlin; sister, Judy Caulder, and several half-brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2019 at WOLFE-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Sciotoville with Pastor John Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Junior Furnace Cemetery in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
